FAQs

Are there any age limits for the dogs to participate?
The dogs must be at least 6 months of age to participate and generally under 7 years of age. That said, some dogs over 7 in good physical condition can participate in the workouts with no problems. A consultation with the Fitness Trainer will be required on a case-by-case basis.

What about the owners?Any age limit for me?
There are no age limits, however you must be able to have complete control of your dog and be able to actively participate with the group for one hour.

Does the owner have to be in shape?
No, you don’t have to bench press 250 lbs., or run a 10K. If you have the ability to walk briskly for about an hour, you should have no problems keeping up with the class.

Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered to participate?
No, but the intact females cannot participate when they are in heat and intact males must behave themselves at all times.

What should I wear?
You should be comfortable and wear clothing that would be appropriate for a light workout and allows you to move freely. Court shoes or walking shoes are recommended. For your dog, no clothing allowed. No doggie t-shirts, bandanas, etc.

What about bad weather?
We work out rain or shine, unless severe weather hits or a warning is issued for the area. Workouts are only scheduled for mornings and late afternoon to avoid high temperatures. As a general rule, no dog should exercise outdoors in the heat of day.

What type of leash do I need?
Maintaining control of your dog starts with physically controlling the head. This means a buckle or chain collar can be used, and head collars. Harnesses, prong collars and retractable leads should stay home and cannot be used for these workouts. You will keep your dog close during class, so the lead need not be more than 6 feet in length.

What about treats?
Bring a few treats to orientation. Only healthy treats will be used in regular workouts and they will be used sparingly.
