What is a Healthy
Canine Lifestyle™?

Running with dog

The choices we make affect the quality of life your dog enjoys. A Healthy Canine Lifestyle results from choosing to incorporate regular exercise, training, grooming, good nutrition and proper veterinary care into your dog’s life.

With consistently healthy choices and plenty of play time, you can give your dog the best gift of all – a longer, happier life.

Canine Obesity: A growing issue

Studies show that 40 to 45% of dogs in the U.S. suffer from being overweight or obese. Overweight dogs labor more throughout their day and put greater burden on their heart and joints. They live shorter lives and are prone to painful and expensive health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.

To learn more about this important issue, visit the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention.

Food Bowl: How much is too much?

Most dogs become overweight due to overfeeding and a lack of regular exercise. What to feed, how much to feed and when to feed are important questions to have answers for. SFFC has partnered with Cornell University's Joseph Wakshlag DVM, PhD, DACVN for expertise in the field of nutrition and diet.

Get Off Your Haunches!

Welcome to Super Fit Fido Club™, a new breed of fitness for dogs and the people who love them. Just like all of us, dogs need exercise to be healthy, happy and mentally alert. Developing and sticking with a regular fitness program is one of the most important parts of maintaining a Healthy Canine Lifestyle™.

The goal of SFFC is to help your dog live a longer, healthier life. We offer dog lovers in New York City private and group exercise programs designed specifically for the health needs of dogs. Private sessions offer the ultimate in customization with one-on-one sessions where owners learn how to become their dog's personal trainer for life. SFFC will be resuming group classes in Spring 2011 where people and their dogs participate together, for fun and fitness. For those not in NYC, the SFFC Blog link at the bottom of the page has content and videos on many canine fitness training topics.

The SFFC fitness training programs are developed to improve your dog's overall heart health, flexibility, balance, core strength, muscular endurance and provide mental stimulation. They incorporate exercise principles from the worlds of dog sports fitness training, canine sports medicine and veterinary physical therapy / rehabilitation.

Here’s a message from Canine Fitness Trainer™ Gail Miller Bisher:
